About

Jonathan Gomez Martinez is a PhD candidate at the Goizueta Business School of Emory University. He is generously advised by Dr. Ramnath K. Chellappa. Jonathan’s research addresses the unintended consequences of platform policies, touching on platform economics, online interactions, and digital politics. For more on Jonathan’s ongoing research projects, see his CV.

Prior to joining the doctoral program, Jonathan graduated from Emory University with a BS in Quantitative Sciences. During his time at Emory, Jonathan was president of the Emory Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club and completed a capstone project with CareerBuilder. He also interned with Equifax and Red Ventures where he automated cybersecurity threat and financial reporting. Previously Jonathan has interned with Carolina’s Healthcare System (now Atrium Health), SAS Institute, and Mecklenburg County. These experiences nurtured his passion for deriving insights from data.

Outside of his research and professional experience, Jonathan benefits from a rich social experience. Jonathan is a first generation Mexican immigrant to the United States who's American experience has been enriched by cultural immersion in predominantly White and predominantly Black public schools followed by a private college education.  During his college education, Jonathan was made aware of the struggles of his LGBTQ+ peers and stands as an Ally in their quest for equal treatment under the law. Jonathan is constantly looking to expand his cultural horizons by seeking vibrant conversations with those which have had distinct life experiences, like those of international scholars.

Jonathan encourages you to reach out to discuss project ideas, the PhD experience, or any content on this site. He will be excited to learn about you as well.
